what you know says what about you
You know you're born to teach when scolding young miscreants gives you a cardiovascular rush.
You know you love your dog when you let him kiss you on the mouth even though you saw him chewing leaves and goodness-knows-what-else from the backyard in the same mouth ten minutes earlier.
You know how you see yourself is quite different from the rest of the world when insurance salesmen say with wide open eyes, "You mean even after That operation you have so Little coverage?" and on the days they feel like being sages: "Better go for the health screening and get more coverage before Something happens Tomorrow."
You know you have a good chance of making it big in a different industry when you watch American Idol and Simon Cowell seems to say exactly what you think about all the contestants. Honest!
You know your life would not be the same without electricity when you walk into Best Denki or Parissilk and you see at least five things that could make your home a better place.
You know you have friends from your own age group when you always end up talking about health and saving up for retirement.
You know you care about your health when you make sure you eat all your favourite foods (which are coincidentally high in cholesterol) in the days between the day you do your health screening and the day you get the results.
You know there are things you don't know when you have to find out the correct spelling of cholesterol (cholestral? cholesteral? cholesterel?) from the health report.
What do you know about you and more importantly, are you friend enough to tell me? :-)

I love Simon Cowell. (not sure about making it big.) Any contestants who felt bittered of what he said won't be able to make it too far.
I distinctively remember Jennifer Hudson (though I don't watch American Idols all the time), she took Cowell's critism very well. She wasn't the best singer at that time, but great attitude and quite gracious even few years back.
There are people who mistake Simon Cowell's incisive and candid comments for rudeness. I think they forget that he's just doing what he's being paid to do: be a critic and make interesting telly. He's certainly excellent at saying exactly what's good and what's not so good about each singer.
Forgot to say Hello! to you, Yun. And to ask: Have you baked muffins before? I tried to bake blueberry muffins last weekend and they turned out blue on the outside, green on the inside.
hi... yes i have baked blueberry muffins before... hmm... how do you know that? do you ask random ppl like that? or you saw my baking blog?
here's the blueberry muffins what I baked.
Did you use fresh blueberries? It's rather scary to see it turn green inside! I actually didn't like this recipe too much. My co-worker has another recipe that tasted pretty good but I haven't tried yet. If you want, I can send that other recipe to you.
:)
about simon cowell, he usually says what was on my mind. i enjoy his comments. any smart contestants should take his advices and run with it. instead of saying stupid things like, "i disagree!" doh! :P
are you watching this season? i watched some... some of the contestants are horrible! None of the guys stand out. i think the girls will win. but who knows. americans are weird, it's kind of about the looks also.
Thanks for the recipe. Please send me the other one too. I would like to compare with the one I used.
I saw the picture of chocolate souffles at your blog - that's why I asked about muffins. :-)
I prefer the women on American Idol too. If I were in America I would vote for Melinda Doolittle.
this is the recipe for "double blueberry muffin," not the one on my blog. I have the recipe in the cookbook but didn't type it up.
double blueberry muffin
Makes 12
Prep time: 20 minutes
Total time: 1 hour 15 minutes
Because the batter contains mashed blueberries, it will have a grayish color after being mixed. Don't worry; the baked muffins will still turn a nice golden brown.
1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, room temperature
3/4 cup plus 1 tablespoon sugar
2 large eggs
2 cups fresh blueberries (two 1/2-pint containers), rinsed and dried
1 lemon zest, finely grated (about 1 tablespoon)
1 cup all-purpose flour (spooned and leveled)
1 cup yellow cornmeal
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup milk
1. Preheat oven to 375°. With an electric mixer, cream butter and 3/4 cup sugar on medium-high speed until fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time; beat until combined.
2. In a shallow bowl, mash 1/2 cup blueberries with a fork until liquefied. Add to butter mixture, along with lemon zest; beat to incorporate (mixture will appear separated).
3. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cornmeal, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add flour mixture and milk to the butter mixture in alternating batches, beginning and ending with the flour. Gently fold in remaining 1 1/2 cups blueberries.
4. Line a standard (12-cup) muffin tin (or two 6-cup tins) with paper cups. Spoon or scoop batter into cups, and sprinkle tops with remaining tablespoon sugar.
5. Bake until a toothpick inserted in the center of a muffin comes out clean, about 25 minutes. Cool in pan 20 minutes, then turn out muffins onto a wire rack to cool 10 minutes more before serving.
Note: Using an ice-cream scoop makes it easy to divide the batter evenly and neatly among the lined cups.
Melinda Doolittle, simon praised her for her humbleness. Humble people usually win hearts. I hope she will too.
I didn't watch this week, but I just went to their website and glad that "best friend" girl was voted out! Average singing, bad attitude.
Thank you for the recipes, Yun. I noticed that they both include cornmeal. I am going to try out a recipe that uses buttermilk (like the first one I tried). Will let you know if it's any good. I also found out why my first batched turned blue. I used frozen blueberries and I thawed them. A book I browsed through yesterday said that they should be used in their frozen state.
yea let me know how it turned out. :)
